About
Cafe La Victoria, nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Chimalistac in Ciudad de México, offers a refreshing take on traditional Mexican coffee culture. Located on Av. Miguel Ángel de Quevedo, this café warmly invites both early risers and night owls, opening as early as 6 a.m. and welcoming guests until 11 p.m.
What sets Cafe La Victoria apart is its proud heritage as the former home of the renowned El Jarocho coffee chain, celebrated across Coyoacán. This legacy shines through in their authentic, expertly brewed traditional beverages. Among my favorites is their café de olla, a richly spiced, aromatic coffee that captures the essence of Mexican tradition. The cortado and the jarocho especial also stand out for their bold, full-bodied flavors, appealing to those who savor strong, expertly crafted coffee.
The café's menu extends beyond coffee with a thoughtful assortment of pastries and hearty tortas—perfect companions whether you’re stopping by for a quick break or settling in for a longer visit. Free Wi-Fi and a relaxed atmosphere make it an ideal spot to read, work, or catch up with friends. Payment is flexible with both cash and cards accepted, adding to the convenience.
While some patrons have noted areas for improvement, such as the cleanliness and lighting of the restrooms and the dining area, these minor details do little to detract from the overall experience. The ample parking and friendly service add to the charm and practicality of the location.
In essence, Cafe La Victoria embodies a genuine, unpretentious coffee experience that contrasts sharply with the trend-heavy, overpriced cafés found elsewhere. It’s a haven for those seeking traditional flavors and a welcoming space rooted in community and long-standing coffee culture. For any coffee enthusiast in Mexico City, this is a must-visit destination that honors the past while inviting you to enjoy every sip.
“ Convenient parking lot, dining area was pretty messy and could've been a little cleaner. Drinks are affordable and delicious, great contrast to the overpriced coffee shops. ”
“ Quite a good place for an enjoyable and well prepared coffee. The only bad thing is toilet since it is quite dark, with not much ventilation and not too clean. ”
“ This is my favorite Café south of the city. They have many traditional beverages that you can hardly find anywhere else. For those who know this spot from a long time might remember that it used to be a location of the really famous coffee chain of El Jarocho, from Coyoacán. Well everything is the same except for the name. So you can expect all the delicious traditional beverages from El Jarocho without the crazy lines. Also they kept the original donuts supplier, which El Jarocho didn't. ”
“ This is my go to coffee spot. They open around 6am and close at 11pm. They have wifi and you can stick around for a while to read or chit chat. I like the "cafe de olla". You can pay with cash or card. Restrooms all the way in the back. They have a nice variety of pastries too and tortas if you're hungry. Enjoy. ”
“ Excellent coffee. Tried their cortado and their jarocho especial. Strong and flavorful. Went back several times and brought home a kilo of their house beans. ”
